Complete Guide to the Installation and Maintenance of Torra Hydraulic Mosaics

Installation and Maintenance of Torra Hydraulic Mosaic Tiles

The installation of hydraulic mosaics requires specific preparation and care to ensure a long-lasting and aesthetically impeccable finish. In this guide, we provide you with detailed instructions on paving the base, laying the tiles, waterproofing treatment, grouting, and proper maintenance to keep your tiles in perfect condition.

Base Paving

Step 1: Floor Insulation

If you do not have a sanitary floor slab, it is crucial to prevent future moisture seepage. Insulate the concrete floor using plastic or conventional insulation materials.

Step 2: Concrete Preparation

Prepare a perfectly level concrete floor and wait until it is completely dry before laying the tiles.

Step 3: Checking for Cracks

After paving the base, make sure that there are no cracks. Cracks can adversely affect the hydraulic tiles that will be laid later.

Surface and Materials

- Lay the tiles on a level, clean and dry surface. A wet basement can cause limescale stains on the surface.
- Use flexible adhesive cement (preferably white) both on the floor and on the underside of the pieces to ensure a firm bond.

Placement Technique

- Apply the tile adhesive with a notched trowel and carefully level off the pieces to avoid bumps.
- Do not use a rubber hammer as it may mark and cause micro-cracks in the parts.
- Let the tiles stand for 72 hours before walking on them.

Special Considerations

- For dark coloured mosaics, use a quick-setting tile adhesive to minimise lime stains.
- Maintain a 1 to 2 mm joint between the pieces using plastic crosspieces.
- Leave the necessary expansion joints according to the instructions of your technical department.

Post-Placement Protection

It is advisable to cover the mosaic with a breathable protective sheet (such as Geotextile) to protect it during the rest of the work. Avoid using cardboard or plastic directly on the tiles.

Waterproofing Treatment

Sealant Application

- When the flooring is completely dry, apply Torra Sealer to protect the tiles from staining. This sealer will prevent liquids from penetrating the tiles if removed quickly.
- Before grouting, apply a coat of Torra Sealer to the clean, dry surface. Wait 72 hours after cleaning to ensure complete evaporation of the water used.

Grout Application

- Fill the joints with a flexible, plastic grout, preferably in light colours to avoid staining the pieces. Wipe off excess material immediately.
- Do not use acids or aggressive products to clean excess cement or hydraulic tiles.

Subsequent Maintenance

- Use only water and neutral soap for daily cleaning. Avoid strong or alkaline detergents that may damage the hydraulic tiles.
- For a more glossy or aged finish, use recommended products such as Torra Wax Tile.

Storage and Final Considerations

Store the hydraulic mosaic tiles in a dry and covered place to avoid irreversible damage due to humidity.

Following these recommendations and steps ensures that Torra's hydraulic mosaics will maintain their beauty and functionality over time. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our technical department.
